Ken Roy is the Diplomat in Residence for the North Central Region, overseeing engagements with affiliate universities, including the University of Michigan. A seasoned Political Officer, Ken has served in the Foreign Service for 26 years, with assignments in Belize City, Panama City, The Hague, Asuncion, Buenos Aires, and multiple roles at the U.S. Department of State, including as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Air Force Special Operations Command and Crisis Management Coordinator at the Department of State Operations Center.
Ken has a diverse background, including his prior career as a lawyer. He holds a BA from Michigan State University, a JD from Wayne State Law School, and an MA in International Security Studies from the National Defense University. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish and has basic knowledge of Dutch and German.
Notably, during his time as head of the Political, Economic, Commercial, and Anti-Narcotics Office at the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay, he played an important role in guiding local partners through its "bloodless coup," demonstrating his leadership and crisis management skills.
Ken’s final post before becoming the Diplomat in Residence was at the State Department Board of Assessors. He is deeply committed to public service and has dedicated his career to confronting global challenges and advancing U.S. interests abroad.
