Ford School Professor Javed Ali commented to Al Jazeera about the growing U.S. military presence in the Caribbean: Based on all of the developments that have happened in the Caribbean over the past month, there seems to be a two-pronged approach. The first is that the U.S. military is engaging in a persistent pattern of targeted strikes against boats that the U.S. military claims had drugs or other illicit material allegedly headed for the United States; the bigger issue is the buildup of a large presence ships in place, including an aircraft carrier which is on its way.
